The Tulsa Global District is a hub of minority-owned businesses in the northeastern corner of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The prevailing auto-centric development pattern of strip malls and large parking lots creates challenges for public gatherings and festivals. In 2022, YARD was selected to develop and execute a legacy project for the 30th Congress for the New Urbanism in the Global District. YARD transformed a portion of the local Nam Hai Market parking lot into an active festival plaza that showcased the Global District and its makers, artists, food vendors and entertainers. YARD also led a board retreat with the newly-formed Global District Main Street organization. The deliverables included an internal planning document proposing an updated committee structure, revamped by-laws, staffing recommendations and a 12-month work plan.
